Thanksgiving week in Casa Grande 2026: trash, landfill, library and the Ruins
Thanksgiving is Thursday, November 26. Here is what changes around town that week, from trash day to the landfill, plus easy places to go when family is in town.
Reviewed Nov 2, 2026. Schedules come from the City of Casa Grande, the Casa Grande Public Library and the National Park Service, listed under Sources. Holiday hours can change, so check the city’s pages again the week of the holiday.
Holiday weeks are when small things trip people up: the trash truck comes a day early, the landfill closes, or the place you planned to take visiting relatives is shut on the big day. This guide gathers what the city and other official sources have published for Thanksgiving week 2026 so you can plan once and relax.
The city treats Thanksgiving as a two-day holiday
On its holiday trash schedule, the City of Casa Grande lists the Thanksgiving holiday as Thursday and Friday, November 26 and 27, 2026. That is why both trash and landfill schedules shift for two days, not just one.
The city also keeps a Holiday Hours page that lists each city building, such as City Hall, City Court, the libraries, the Community Recreation Center and the Dorothy Powell Senior Center, with its status for the holiday. When we checked on November 2, it still showed Labor Day, so look again closer to Thanksgiving before you plan an errand at a city office on Friday.
Trash pickup during Thanksgiving week
City trash is collected twice a week on one of two routes: Monday and Thursday, or Tuesday and Friday. Here is how the 2026 holiday changes things, according to the city:
| Your usual day | Thanksgiving week pickup |
|---|---|
| Monday or Tuesday | No change |
| Thursday | Moves to Wednesday, Nov 25 |
| Friday | No change: Friday, Nov 27 |
The city’s trash brochure asks residents to have containers at the curb by 6 a.m. on pickup day (or the night before), notes that drivers do not come back for containers put out late, and asks you to bring the container in the same day. With a Wednesday pickup this year, it is easy to forget, so set a reminder for Tuesday night if you are on the Monday and Thursday route.
Questions about your route go to Casa Grande Public Works at (520) 421-8625. Not sure whether the city or a private hauler serves your address? Our utilities and trash checklist explains who to call.
Landfill hours
- Thursday, Nov 26: closed
- Friday, Nov 27: 7 a.m. to 12 p.m.
- Saturday, Nov 28: regular hours, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
If you are clearing out the garage before guests arrive, plan landfill runs for earlier in the week or Saturday.
Library hours and a November reading challenge
Casa Grande has two public library branches. Their regular hours, per the city:
- Casa Grande Main Library, 449 N. Drylake St.: Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed Sunday. Phone (520) 421-8710.
- Vista Grande Library, 1556 N. Arizola Rd.: Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed Sunday. Phone (520) 421-8652.
Both branches were closed for Labor Day, and they appear on the city’s Holiday Hours page, so confirm holiday-week hours there before you go. The library is also running a Read Grateful! November reading challenge for all ages through November 30 on the Beanstack app, with digital badges for logging your reading. It is an easy way to keep kids busy during the school break.
New to town? Anyone living in Pinal County can get a free library card with a photo ID and proof of address, according to the library. Both branches also lend recreation equipment, so ask what is available.
Casa Grande Ruins: open all week except Thanksgiving Day
Casa Grande Ruins National Monument is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, except on Juneteenth, Independence Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas, per the National Park Service. The gate closes 15 minutes before closing time, and there is no entrance fee. That makes Wednesday, Friday or the weekend a good time for a free outing with visiting family. Our Casa Grande Ruins visitor guide covers what to see and how to plan your visit.
